Who is responsible for your data
Algebrica.org (the Site) is a personal, non-commercial project. The controller of the personal data processed through the Site is Antonio Lupetti, who can be reached at info@algebrica.org for any question about this policy or about the way your data is handled. This policy is written under Articles 13 and 14 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, the General Data Protection Regulation.
What data we collect
We collect three categories of data.
- Data you send us. When you write to us or subscribe to the newsletter, we receive your email address, together with your name and any other detail you choose to include.
- Technical data recorded by the server. Every request to the Site is logged by our hosting provider, SiteGround, with the IP address, the type of device and browser, the operating system, the pages requested, and the time of the request.
- Usage data collected by the analytics services. Google Analytics and Jetpack record pseudonymous information about the pages you open, the way you reached them, and the approximate area you connect from.
We do not collect special categories of data such as health information, political opinions, or religious beliefs. The Site is not addressed to children under sixteen, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Why we process your data and on what legal basis
- We answer the messages you send us, on the basis of our legitimate interest in replying to whoever writes to the Site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- We send the periodic newsletter on the basis of your consent, given when you enter your address in the subscription form (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw that consent at any time, and withdrawal does not affect the messages sent before it.
- We keep server logs to run the Site, protect it from abuse, and diagnose faults, on the basis of our legitimate interest in the security and the continuity of the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- We measure how the Site is read through Google Analytics and Jetpack. The cookies used for this purpose require your consent under Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, and you can refuse or remove them through the settings of your browser as described below.
We do not sell your data, we do not transfer it for the commercial purposes of third parties, and we take no decision about you by automated means, including profiling.
How long we keep your data
- Messages sent to the contact address are kept while the request is open and for twenty-four months afterwards, then deleted.
- Your address in the newsletter list is kept until you unsubscribe, together with the date of the subscription as evidence of the consent given.
- Server logs are kept for twelve months.
- Analytics data is kept for fourteen months from the last visit, the retention limit set in Google Analytics.
Use of cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. The Site uses technical cookies, which make the pages work and cannot be switched off, and analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics and Jetpack to count visits and to record which entries are consulted.
You can block or delete cookies through the settings of your browser, and you can disable Google Analytics on every site you visit by installing the opt-out add-on published by Google. Blocking technical cookies may keep some pages from working correctly.
Third-party services
The Site uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided to readers in the European Economic Area by Google Ireland Limited. For traffic from the EEA, the IP address is used to derive an approximate location and is then discarded, so it is neither logged nor stored. We use the reports to see how many readers the Site has and which entries they open.
The Site uses Jetpack, a WordPress.com plugin provided by Automattic Inc. Jetpack collects data for site statistics, security, and spam filtering.
The Site uses MailerLite, an email service provided by MailerLite Limited, to manage the newsletter. Your address is stored on MailerLite servers and is used only to send you our periodic newsletters. Subscribers in the European Economic Area are served by the European entity of the company, whose data centres are in Germany and the Netherlands. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us at any time to delete your address from the list.
The Site is hosted by SiteGround, which stores the files and the database of the Site and records the server logs described above.
Each of these providers processes data on our instructions under a data processing agreement signed under Article 28 GDPR, and each publishes its own privacy policy, which we invite you to read.
Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Google and Automattic are established in the United States and may process data there. Transfers to Google rely on the adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, to which Google LLC is certified. Transfers made by Jetpack rely on the standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission, since the certification of Automattic does not cover that plugin. Data collected through the newsletter stays inside the European Union.
The adequacy decision on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework is in force, and it is also under challenge before the Court of Justice of the European Union. If it were annulled, transfers to the United States would move to the standard contractual clauses, and this policy would be updated.
Your rights
Articles 15 to 22 GDPR give you the right to ask us for access to your personal data, for its rectification or erasure, for the restriction of its processing, and for its portability in a machine-readable format. You can object to a processing based on our legitimate interest, and you can withdraw a consent you have given at any time.
Write to info@algebrica.org to exercise any of these rights, and we will answer within one month. The request is free, and we ask for no proof of identity beyond what is needed to be sure that the address is yours.
If you believe that your data has been handled unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of the Member State where you live, where you work, or where the alleged infringement took place.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the services used by the Site change or when the law requires it. The version in force is always the one published on this page. This policy was last updated on 2 August 2026.
